EDITORIAL

LATIN AMERICA IS CREATING MORE THAN THE WORLD HAS LEARNED TO LOOK FOR

A new commercial landscape is emerging in Peru—and it may change the way Latin America connects with the world.

For decades, Latin America's relationship with the world has often been described through a familiar vocabulary: commodities, agriculture, raw materials, tourism and traditional exports.

Those things remain important. But they are no longer enough to describe what is happening.

A new generation of entrepreneurs is building companies that combine local identity with contemporary design, technology, quality and increasingly sophisticated consumer expectations.

At the same time, the physical infrastructure connecting Latin America to global markets is changing.

Infrastructure changes what becomes possible.

Peru is investing in a new commercial infrastructure that has the potential to reshape how goods, people and capital move through the country.

The Port of Chancay, the modernization of Callao, improvements surrounding Jorge Chávez International Airport, and proposed logistics and economic corridors are part of a broader conversation about connectivity.

Projects such as Puerto Seco del Sur in Puno and the development around San Juan de Marcona point toward another possibility: connecting production more directly with international markets.

Infrastructure, however, cannot create a brand.

It cannot explain why a consumer should care about a product, why a retailer should make room for it, or why an investor should pay attention.

That requires something else.

It requires imagination.

Gold of the Andes is interested in the intersection between those two forces: the infrastructure that makes movement possible and the entrepreneurs whose ideas give that movement meaning.

We want to know:

Who are the entrepreneurs building the next generation of Latin American brands?

What are they creating?

Which products have something genuinely different to offer?

Which ideas can travel beyond their country of origin?

Which ones could first resonate with Hispanic consumers in the United States, then with a broader multicultural audience, and eventually with the American market at large?

The answer will not always be obvious.

And it should not be.

Discovery requires looking beyond what is already familiar.

This is why Gold of the Andes exists.

We are building a platform to discover entrepreneurs, brands, products and experiences emerging from Latin America—and to provide the context necessary to understand their potential.

Not everything needs to become a mass-market product. Not every entrepreneur needs to enter the United States. And not every product that crosses a border will find an audience.

But somewhere within this increasingly connected Latin American landscape are ideas that deserve to be seen.

Our job is to look for them.

Because the next great Latin American brand may not yet be on an American shelf.

It may be sitting in a workshop in Lima. A kitchen in Arequipa. A studio in Bogotá. A laboratory in Mexico City. A factory in São Paulo. Or a small company that nobody outside its home country has discovered yet.

The infrastructure is changing.
The entrepreneurs are changing.
The opportunity is changing.

Perhaps it is time we changed the way we look for what comes next.

ABOUT US

Jorge Guillén

Founder, Gold of the Andes

A professional leader, writer, and keen observer of people, organizations, markets, and the societies in which they operate.

Originally from Peru and now living and working in the United States, Jorge's perspective has been shaped by moving between two worlds. One is the practical world of business, operations, leadership, and the development of people. The other is the world of history, culture, economics, politics, and the stories through which societies understand themselves.

Throughout his professional career, Jorge has focused on leadership, operations, execution, and people. His approach is grounded in a simple principle: what matters is not only what a strategy promises, but what happens when it encounters reality.

That same curiosity has shaped his interest in Latin America. He is particularly interested in the distance between what countries, institutions, and companies say about themselves and what their people, markets, entrepreneurs, and economies actually reveal.

“What is Latin America creating today that the American marketplace has not yet discovered?”

Gold of the Andes grew from that question.

The platform is built around discovering entrepreneurs, brands, products, and experiences emerging from Latin America—and providing the context necessary to understand their potential and their connection to the American marketplace.

This requires more than identifying products. It requires understanding people, cultures, markets, consumer behavior, infrastructure, and the increasingly complex connections between Latin America and the United States.

For Jorge, that work is also deeply personal. His connection to Peru extends beyond business. It is rooted in its history, culture, contradictions, and people. His writing—including Cemento, a collection of interconnected stories about friendship, adolescence, memory, and life in Lima—reflects the same instinct that informs his professional work: pay attention to what is happening beneath the surface.

The executive observes systems.
The writer observes people.

Gold of the Andes brings both perspectives together.

We look for what is emerging, understand why it matters, and help create the connections that allow good ideas to travel.

Discover what Latin America is creating next.

OUR PERSPECTIVE

The opportunity is not simply about exporting products.
It is about understanding how products travel across cultures.

Our perspective begins with Latin America, but our destination is the broader American marketplace.
